Homemade mince pies just taste so much better than those you can find in the shops, so this year why not try these cute star topped bites for yourself. Trust us they won’t hang around for long!

These mince pies have been hand crafted by a Cornish Maid…

NB. if you want tasty mince pies you will need to have Michael Buble’s Christmas album playing in the background whilst cooking!

festive mince pie recipe

How you do it

Make your pastry by mixing together the flour and salt, then using your finger tips rub the margarine and lard into the flour. Keep rubbing in until you achieve fine breadcrumbs. Next add a little cold water at a time until a dough has formed. Leave the pastry to chill in the fridge for at least an hour.

Preheat your oven to 180°C (gasmark 4)

Next roll the pastry on a floured board until only a few millimetres thick. Cut an even number of tops and bottoms, we used a star cutter to make our mince pies even more festive. Place the bottoms into a greased cupcake tray and fill with a teaspoon of homemade mincemeat. We made our own, try the recipe here.

Next place the lids on top and push down the edge to help them seal. Brush the tops with a little milk to make them brown evenly in the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes, keeping an eye on the pastry and taking out when golden brown.

Leave to cool then dust with icing sugar. Our mince pies are perfect served with a dollop of clotted cream and a mulled cider.

While you’re at it why not attempt our Stargazey Pie or Saffron Cake for a festive celebration.
