August in Cornwall is manic and we love it. There’s so much to do and so many people around that all the festivals and events have such a great atmosphere.

Here’s where to head for your August in Cornwall…

Falmouth Week, 4 – 13th

One of the largest sailing regattas in the South West, with Falmouth welcoming over 450 boats during the event. With many different classes of races around Falmouth Bay as well as a 25 mile course for the bigger yachts, Champagne Day is not to be missed. Falmouth’s Event Square will also be filled to the rafters with crafts and musicians as well as ‘Science in the Square’ on Friday. There’s a firework display, carnival and samba band to really get the party atmosphere started.

Symphony by the Sea, 4th

Lusty Glaze Beach and Cornish Sinfonia bring you an evening of music right by the sea. The Cornish Sinfonia Orchestra consists of 37 musicians who will undoubtedly fill the sandy cove with uplifting tunes and classical musical favourites. The unique setting of Lusty Glaze will mean that you are unlikely to every experience an evening like this again, this location has even won Beach of the Year 2017 by The Times and The Sunday Times! St Michaels Mount Swim, 5th

This one and a half mile swim around St Michaels Mount is in aid of The Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer. Starting from the beach at Marazion, over the causeway and behind the Mount before returning for a pasty! Starts at 4pm.

Boardmasters, 9th – 13th

A music, surf and skate festival held across Newquay and Watergate Bay welcoming some of the best national surfers, skaters and musicians. The music festival is broadcast over 9 stages on the cliffs above Watergate Bay, and this year have performances from Two Door Cinema Club, Alt-J and Jamiroquai.

Fowey Royal Regatta, 13th – 19th

One of the countys top sailing events, welcoming thousands of people over the regatta week. With lots of family friendly events and activities running alongside the sailing. The red arrows making a yearly appearance, and often a Royal has been spotted this event comes with high expectations. Fowey lays on a dynamic carnival and firework display, as well as giant pasty ceremony and crab catching competition!

Get Active Truro Festival, 16th – 19th

Truro’s Lemon Quay is transformed into a outdoor sports centre where Cornwall Sports Partnership are offering lots of ‘come and try’ sessions. The main aim is to encourage everyone to be more active. There’s lots of demonstrations and goodies on offer, it’s a great day out for the family.

Cornish Steam and Country Fair, 18th – 20th

Over three days many vintage steam engines are shown off in all their glory at the Stithians show ground. Miniature and full size engines are polished and buffed for everyone to see. There’s also vintage cars, tractors, horses and craft stalls, there’s enough to keep everyone occupied. Visit the show ring for lots of entertainment over the weekend.

Cornwall Folk Festival, 24th – 28th

Now in its fourth decade this festival is hosted around Wadebridge with a jam packed programme of Cornish musicians. There’s also a fringe tent home to local bands and singers, workshops and childrens events. Showcasing the true celtic music and dance from the region this event draws fans from across the country.

Newlyn Fish Festival, 28th

A highlight of August in Cornwall this foodie festival really shows off the quality of Cornwall’s seaside industry and the wonderful variety of seafood found in our Cornish seas. Raising money for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen there’s live music, boats, cooking demonstrations and childrens activities. It’s a must visit family day out with bouncy castles, crafts and childrens activities.

Bude Jazz 2017, 29th – 1st September

With 77 gigs over the 4 days this festival celebrates Traditional and New Orleans Jazz. With live gigs, street parades and a jazz picnic it’s a prefect way to celebrate the August Bank Holiday weekend. Get your tickets at the Bude Tourist Information Centre.
