The National Surf Life Saving Champs are currently at Holywell Bay with the Masters (over 30’s) being completed over the weekend. We went along to take in the atmosphere and cheer along the local Cornish Surf Clubs.
There was a great turn out from the Cornish Teams with Holywell Bay, Bude, Gyllyngvase, Portreath and Polzeath all heavily represented. We’re slightly bias towards the guys and gals from Hayle SLSC being our home team and where we spend a lot of out time…
Here’s a few shots from the National Masters Competition on the Sunday!
Compared with a lot of the other clubs competing Hayle had a small but quality team. With only 9 people taking part over the two days they did amazingly to place 11th overall after all the weekends events.
With events such as board relay, surf ski relay and taplin we did well in the team events, but also medalled with the individuals too. Board, sprint, Oceanman and Oceanwomen all gave us medal podium finishes, so the team we’re buzzing with their achievements.

Don’t worry if you missed out this weekend, there’s still lots more to come! The Youth teams (13-19 years) will be competing here on the 15th and 16th August and the Nippers (8-13 years) on the 18th and 19th!
If you’re down on holiday or just in the area be sure to nip along and check out the talent displayed on Holywell Beach. From beach sprints, running, swimming and board races the events run from 8am – 5pm. You may even find yourself a new hobbie…
