Newlyn Filmhouse has only recently opened it’s doors and is creating quite a storm. Located right in the heart of one of Cornwall’s oldest fishing villages. Newlyn cinema has been lovingly restored from an old fish warehouse.
Found seconds from the centre of Newlyn, just opposite Newlyn Meadery (a frequent spot of ours!). It’s easy to find and you can park a short walk away.
The cinema is home to two screens showing a range of mainstream movies and some more alternative films that you wouldn’t be able to watch in your regular high street cinema. Newlyn Filmhouse offers a changing program of films including Cornish feature lengths, musicals, childrens films and ballets.
The cinema screens are a great size, making for cozy viewing with large screens, lots of leg room and very comfortable seats. There’s a choice of sofas or single seats, and the whole building has been refurbished with a wonderful welcoming style.
Newlyn Filmhouse tickets might be a few pennies more than other cinemas, but we think it’s worth it. From the seamless online booking system to the friendly staff on arrival. The cinema also offers an annual membership package. This gives you two free tickets, and discount off your entrance and drinks.
Newlyn Filmhouse Cafe
There is a cafe upstairs in Newlyn Filmhouse offering hot and cold drinks, a well stocked bar and a tempting cake counter. Their menu regularly changes, but bear in mind you might want to book a table as they fill up quick in peak times.
They are open from 10.30am – 10.00pm daily so it’s a great spot to pop in for a coffee next time you’re passing and have a nosey at this great new space in Newlyn.
We sampled a wonderful chocolate brownie along with a selection of hot drinks to take into the film. But please note that only drinks and ice creams can be taken into the screens.
The food looked wonderful and next time we visit we’ll make sure we plan ahead to give ourselves enough time to sample some of their home cooked delights.
We would highly recommend if you want a different cinema experience. It’s a little less dingy and smells less of stale popcorn.
And with fresh handpicked Dalias in the restrooms, this place really is a cut above the rest!
